Synopsis
Historian Matthew Pinsker will share insights from the House Divided Project's current joint research initiative with the National Park Service on "slave stampedes" or mass escapes from slavery. Pinsker will detail some of the now-forgotten stories behind wartime stampedes at places like Hampton, Virginia or Loutre Island, Missouri and their impact on Lincoln's emancipation policy.
Biography
Matthew Pinsker holds the Pohanka Chair for Civil War History and serves as the Director of the House Divided Project at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He is the author of two books and numerous articles on Abraham Lincoln and other topics in the Civil War era.
